RE: 29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

Figured I should update everyone.
We pulled the trigger on a preowned 07 Yukon xl 1500, 5.3 and 3.73 gears. We just got back from a 1700 mile trip to Niagara Falls and around lake Erie. We are very pleased the way the Yukon pulled the trailer and it sure is nice having more room for everyone. I packed the trailer so well that we had virtually nothing in the payload area of the Yukon except a small cooler and a laptop.
If I spent more time traveling I would have opted for the 2500 but we spend a lot more time driving this vehicle without the trailer than towing.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to help us make our decision!
Now, I've got to find some nice mirror extenders! ;-) The one's from my Sierra don't fit. ;-(

RE: 29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

Checked out a brand new 08 Yukon xl the other night and the payload capacity is a little better than the Toy. I am seriously considering the GM. Found a previous GM program 08 Yukon xl with only 42 miles on at a $10K discount...let's see what trade values are on my Trailblazer and go from there.

RE: 29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

Please don't turn this thread into an import - domestic pissing match. The differences are not what they used to be and I have never seen the big three be able to produce the power to fuel mileage numbers that toyota is producing. Let it rest. Thank you.
I have not determined yet which vehicle we will be purchasing. However, we desire the third seat since we have three children and a 6 pound dog. The kids also desire to bring a friend or two once in a while, we also enjoy bringing the mother in law once a year. My Z71's marginal back seat and numbers simply are not cutting it anymore.
I use the Blue Ox WD and will look further into the payload capacity ratings. This has been very interesting so far. Thank you.

RE: 29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

So...if the tongue weight is 1000 lbs (easy to do with the 29bhs) then I can only haul an additional 300 lbs? That doesn't make any sense...does it???

29bhs and Toyota Sequoia TV

Hi all!
We own an 07 Jayflight 29bhs which weighs 5600 lbs before we add about 1000 lbs of gear and food. We've been towing it with an 04 silverado Z71 ext cab with a 5.3/tow package and have had no problems to date. My children are getting larger and we want a larger vehicle but I really don't want to buy a 4 door 3/4 ton.
We have owned a Yukon xl in the past but are seriously considering a brand new 08 Toyota Sequoia with a towing capacity of 10,200 lbs. This vehicle looks like it really fits us perfectly but I'm a little leery of the shorter wheel base.
A suburban or Yukon xl has a 130" wheelbase but the Sequoia is only 122". Anyone have any opinion or experience with this combination of trailer length and wheelbase? Will the 8" make that big of a difference?

RE: Questions H20 heater 08 Jayco Jayflight G2 29BHS

We have the same camper and heater - we use electric only to maintain the temp but switch on the gas right before the daily shower routine and when originally warming up the cold water. The lights stay on when they are enabled and the water heater is non-adjustable.
Good luck!

campground needed, Flint MI to canandian border off I-69

Would anybody happen to know about a kid friendly campground in between Flint Michigan and the Canadian border just off of I-69? We will be traveling from Niagara Falls to South Haven, Michigan and need a place to stop for a couple of days. We will be in this area early July.
Thanks!!!

Cedar Point Campgrounds

Camping with my children while visiting the amusement park and water park at Cedar Point. We've heard bad reviews about their on-site campground. Any recommendations for campgrounds located relatively close by?
How about the State Park nearby? I think it is called Eastside?

RE: Deer Whistle - Do they work or Not

Let me ask you a question. If deer are bedded down and you drive by, you don't even know it. If you install deer whistles and drive by they may get up and run. Which way are they going to run?
If they work, the only thing they can do is make the deer run...no guarantee that they are going to run away. Save your money and save the deer! ;-)

RE: Anyone camp without satellite TV

I shut off my dish at home almost a year ago so there is no way I'd take it with camping. I camp to get away from everything except my family. I have three kids, 13, 9, and 6 years old - home life is great with no tv. Enjoy some fresh air and imagination! ;-)

RE: kid friendly Indiana campgrounds open early spring

We camped at spring mill two summers ago. It used to be splendid when I was a kid and I bragged to my family about how awesome it was for over a year. My wife finally said "let's go". I was extremely disappointed as the lake has filled in with sediment and the state doesn't have enough money to dredge it. It is now a wetland for birds...no beach, no boating, no fishing. The park and cg was ok...cave tour by boat, decent pool, clean cg. My boy loves fishing so he and I hiked half-way around the lake to where I remembered was a small dam. Sure enough we found it and fished the base and caught a few large mouth bass, so the trip was not a total loss. Still a good time, just thought I'd let you know. If you haven't been there in the past you probably wouldn't even know better. ;-)

RE: kid friendly Indiana campgrounds open early spring

UPDATE
Prophetstown State Park is a VERY nice campground. The bike and hiking trails are in the wide open prairie though so a little long and difficult in the wind.
The farm was partially staffed and the kids had a riot helping collect eggs and do chores. They were very disappointed because they couldn't milk a cow - she had just had a calf and is nursing. We had a great time especially for such a short drive. Thumbs up!

All Indiana State Park Camp Grounds open March 1, Farm and Village are staffed...they are going to allow the children to help with chores tomorrow afternoon. If only I could get my kids excited to do chores at home! ;-)

RE: kid friendly Indiana campgrounds open early spring

Found a new State park less than an hour away. Prophetstown State Park...the playground is open, paved bicycle trails, hiking trails, a working 1920's farm and native American camp to tour. Looks like we are going there for our quick little spring break trip.

We are looking for a kid friendly campground near NW Indiana for a quick trip. Does anybody happen to know of a campground open this time of the year (early spring)?

RE: Jayco 29bhs Maxistor

We have an 07 29bhs and I WISH we had the door. My tongue weight is a tad heavy and it would be nice to place additional things in the rear. The small storage compartment door is VERY tiny.

Changing them slightly does NOT avoid copyright problems. They are still illegal copies...those people will eventually be prosecuted by the manufacturers.
